The New York Police Department bulldozed more than 200 scooters, mopeds, and motorbikes in Staten Island on Tuesday as part of the city’s crackdown on illegal and unregistered bikes.

The NYPD said at least 5,700 ‘dangerous illegal vehicles’ had been seized so far since the start of 2026, a 10% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

It comes after a 7-month-old was killed by a stray bullet in a drive-by shooting in Brooklyn on 1 April, where the suspects fled the scene on an illegal moped.
