Bamenda – A tragic and shocking incident unfolded on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at the Bamenda Regional Hospital, where the actions of a so-called “Man of God” resulted in the death of a critically ill patient.

According to the Director of the Hospital speaking in a video message, a young man entered the hospital ward without the knowledge or consent of the nurses on duty. Claiming to bring divine healing, he approached the bed of a patient who was on oxygen support. In a bizarre turn of events, the man assured the patient that she no longer needed the oxygen mask because “God would heal her.” He then proceeded to remove the oxygen mask, leaving the already fragile patient struggling for breath.

Witnesses say the man began praying fervently for the woman, sprinkling water on her and even giving her some to drink. Moments later, the patient began gasping for air, prompting other patients and bystanders to alert the medical staff. Nurses rushed to the scene and made desperate attempts to resuscitate the woman, but their efforts were in vain. She was pronounced dead shortly after.

The self-proclaimed “Man of God” was immediately apprehended by the Hospital security and handed over to the police, where he is now in custody pending investigations. The mortal remains of the woman have been transferred to the hospital mortuary as her grieving family comes to terms with the devastating loss.

Hospital officials have urged the public to refrain from unauthorized visits to patients, emphasizing the need for strict supervision to prevent similar incidents. Meanwhile, the police are continuing their investigation into the matter.

The event has sparked outrage and concern among Bamenda residents, with many questioning the recklessness of individuals who exploit faith and put lives at risk in critical medical situations.
