African National Congress (ANC) leaders in KwaZulu-Natal are expected to visit the home of South Africa’s late ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa, on Thursday.

Mthethwa died in Paris after allegedly taking his own life. The ANC’s provincial task team has sent a delegation to pay their last respects to his family, with mourners expected to gather throughout the day.

Nathi Mthethwa was a Senior ANC Member and Former Minister 

Mthethwa was a long-serving ANC leader who previously held key cabinet roles, including Minister of Police and Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture. At the time of his passing, he was serving as South Africa’s ambassador to France.

Provincial leaders will also make their way to his family homestead in KwaMbonambi, northern KwaZulu-Natal, to offer their condolences.

Deputy coordinator of the Musa Dladla Region, Phiwe Mhlongo, said: “I am briefed that the secretary-general’s office (SGO), as well as going to send someone to be the anchor and every, otherwise we’re saddened by the passing of our pioneers.”

The Mthethwa family confirmed they are still waiting for official feedback from French authorities regarding the circumstances of his death. Despite this, preparations for his burial are moving forward.
