Petru Atletico defeated AS Otoho of the Republic of Congo 32-27 in the women’s final at the 42nd African Men’s and Women’s Club Cup Winners Handball Championships held in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo from the 9th to the 14th, winning its 12th career championship with two consecutive losses.
Six teams from five countries participated in the women’s team and played the group stage in two groups.
Petrou Atletico of Group B defeated HBC Kali 49-10 in the first game, followed by Heritage 34-23 and topped the group with overwhelming power. Heritage defeated HBC Kali 39-28 to advance to the semi – finals as second in the group.
In Group A, Cameroon’s FAP Yaounde defeated Tout Puissant Mazembe 38–19 but finished second in the group with a 23-24 loss to AS Otto. AS Auto finished first in the group with a 37-19 rout by TP Mazembe.
In the semifinals, AS Otto defeated Heritage 29-23 to advance to the final for the first time in the club’s history. Franciska Araujo Joao scored nine goals to lead the victory.
In the semi-finals on the other side, Petru Atletico defeated FAP Yaounde 35-16 to reach the final. He showed off his image as a favorite by winning his third double-digit score in this tournament.
Petru Atletico continued their momentum in the final. He took the lead by leading 7-2 at the beginning of the game, but AS Otto chased and once caught up to a one-goal gap. However, Petru Atletico finished with a 17-14 lead in the first half, and again dominated the flow in the second half.
Vilma Pegado Nenganga led the attack by scoring 11 goals alone, and Petru Atletico held the lead until the end of the game to win 32-27.
The bronze medal was won by Heritage, which defeated FAP Yaounde 25-24.
Heritage’s Christianne Mwasea Mwange won the tournament’s top scorer with 34 goals, followed by winner Petru Atletico’s Vilma Pegadou Nenganga with 31 goals. Imaculada Titu Matos scored 30 goals to help his team win the championship.
