Recent load shedding has reminded South Africans that Eskom is not yet the reliable electricity producer that we need. Alongside rising electricity prices, the state-owned utility is still struggling to keep up maintenance without shutting off the power. The most recent stage-6 load shedding, which was sprung on Sunday, 23 February, is apparently an isolated incident; this may be a vain hope. Eskom is toying with aged infrastructure and decayed power units that are long due for maintenance and replacement. Unfortunately, when Eskom was running a surplus of electricity, boasting about providing the cheapest electricity in the world, it failed…

Washington, D.C – As discussions around a Ukraine-Russia peace deal intensify, the stakes have never been higher. With the United States having poured an estimated $350 billion into Ukraine’s defense, and nearly $200 billion of it under President Biden in the last four years, it is staggering to hear that Ukraine claims to have received only $86 billion. This discrepancy raises profound questions about transparency and accountability in the disbursement of these funds. Perhaps, as some speculate, only Elon Musk and his DOGE team might be the ones with the means to unravel the mystery. However, as crucial as financial accountability…

Intel, which attracted interest from Qualcomm last year, has three main segments: 1. Products division The division designs its chips and is one of the most accomplished historically but has faced fierce competition from AMD in the PC and data centre markets. A shift in spending by big cloud companies towards AI chips made…
Alcinda Moezelaar, Rand Merchant Bank. Alcinda Moezelaar, head of sales enablement at treasury and trade solutions, Rand Merchant Bank, believes generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is poised to redefine data storytelling, but cautions that there is still a definite need for human skills. According to Moezelaar, data storytelling has always been a component of business intelligence (BI), even if it wasn’t explicitly named as such. “Traditionally, storytelling involved creating dashboards, exporting visuals to PowerPoint and presenting structured reports. However, true data storytelling goes beyond visualisation: it requires understanding the context of data, defining the audience, and crafting a narrative that makes…

The End of HP’s Infamous Wait Time Remember that feeling of dread when you had to call HP customer service? The endless hold music, the robotic voice telling you about “longer waiting times” (even when there weren’t), and the sinking feeling that you’d be stuck there for hours? Well, good news! HP has finally ditched its infamous 15-minute mandatory wait time policy. It seems they’ve realized that deliberately frustrating customers isn’t exactly a winning strategy. HP Support’s Shift to AI and Chatbots HP’s policy, which affected callers in the UK, Ireland, France, and Italy, was an attempt to push customers…
Digital signatures are especially useful in highly regulated industries. (Image: Supplied) The world’s most expensive signature belonged to George Washington, when Christies reported that his annotated copy of the US Constitution was auctioned for just under $10 million in 2012. Costly signatures are relevant to South African organisations in 2025, if for somewhat different reasons. A legitimate, trusted signature is essential to doing business, helping to mitigate legal, operational, financial and reputational risks. This is why digital signatures have become an essential part of any organisation’s security measures – and why they should be part of yours. How digital signatures workPlatforms…

Tesla’s decline compares with a 0.7% drop in total industry sales. Tesla is off to a slow start to the year in part due to the changeover of its most popular vehicle, the Model Y, to a new design.
