A Cornish hotel is supporting a school’s volunteer expedition to Africa.
The Polurrian Hotel has announced its backing of Helston Community College’s month-long trip to Tanzania, taking place in July.
Twenty-six students aged 14 to 16 will travel to rural Tanzania to take part in community-based projects while gaining cultural experience.
Grant Callaghan, general manager at the Polurrian Hotel, said: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with Helston Community College and this inspiring Tanzania expedition.
“Having supported the College’s Peru trip two years ago, it is fantastic to be involved once again in a project that gives students the opportunity to make a meaningful difference, develop new skills and broaden their horizons.
“Helping young people and community initiatives is something we are incredibly proud of.”
This is not the first time the hotel has partnered with the college.
It previously supported their overseas expedition to Peru in July 2024
The headteacher of Helston Community College, Alex Lingard, said: “We are grateful for the Polurrian Hotel’s continued support.
“Its contribution has helped make these life-changing expeditions possible, giving students the chance to contribute to important community projects while developing confidence, independence, and a wider understanding of the world.
“Partnerships like this play a vital role in helping us to offer experiences that build resilience and a global perspective.”
The announcement comes during a period of change for the hotel, which is currently undergoing a £10 million redevelopment.
The investment will see 10 new hotel suites and upgraded leisure facilities, including an infinity pool, gym, and spa treatment rooms.
A new function suite for up to 120 guests is also being built, designed for events overlooking Polurrian Cove and Mounts Bay.
All new facilities are scheduled to be operational by April 2027.
