Decathlon Touches Down in Europe with First-Ever Airport Location at Geneva Airport

n a major shift from its traditional big-box retail format, sports giant Decathlon has officially opened its first-ever European airport storefront at Geneva Airport (GVA).

The new proximity-focused location represents a strategic expansion for the retailer, bringing its footprint directly into major travel hubs.

Tailored for the Traveler on the Move

Spanning 150 square meters (approximately 1,600 square feet), the Geneva Airport outlet departs from the sprawling layouts of Decathlon’s peripheral megastores. Instead, the inventory is highly curated, focusing specifically on:

  • Essential sports equipment and travel gear.

  • Seasonal essentials, including lightweight technical clothing.

  • Travel-friendly accessories like sunglasses, sun protection, and reusable water bottles.

  • Compact sports luggage and specialized hiking electronics.

The store is designed to serve both departing and arriving passengers, as well as airport employees, who may need to grab crucial gear at the last minute.

24/7 Smart Lockers: Redefining Convenience

Recognizing that flight schedules run around the clock, Decathlon Switzerland has integrated a 24/7 Click & Collect system featuring connected pickup lockers.

Through this digital-first solution, travelers and locals can order from Decathlon’s extensive online catalog of nearly 90,000 products and retrieve their purchases at the airport at any hour of the day or night. This service seamlessly accommodates late-night arrivals and early-morning departures.

Thomas Dezillie, Marketing & Communication Director of Decathlon Switzerland said  “The opening of this store at Geneva Airport is an immense pride and is at the heart of our proximity strategy pursued in recent years. This is the first time in Europe that a Decathlon is establishing itself in an airport. The Geneva teams designed this 150-square-meter format to be as close as possible to the needs of the Swiss population and travelers — from smart convenience purchases to picking up orders at any hour of the night, thanks to our 24/7 lockers. We are bringing sport closer to everyone’s daily life, even while traveling.”

Kristina Mees, Commercial and Development Director, Geneva Airport added “With the arrival of Decathlon, Geneva Airport reinforces the diversity and quality of its commercial offering for the benefit of passengers, visitors, and employees of the platform. This unprecedented concept in Europe illustrates our desire to develop useful, accessible services adapted to new uses, while consolidating the airport’s commercial appeal.”

While GVA marks Decathlon’s European debut in aorts globally. The retailer already operates two other airport-based locations:

  • Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, India.

  • Faaa International Airport in Tahiti.
