England have been dealt a blow ahead of next weekend’s Six Nations and Calcutta Cup clash with Scotland.

Winger Immanuel Feyi-Waboso has been ruled out of the trip to Murrayfield and to make matters worse, now faces a potential race against time to feature again in this year’s Six Nations.

The 23-year-old Exeter speedster picked up a hamstring injury in training last week, forcing him to withdraw from England’s starting XV for their emphatic 48-7 win over Wales at Twickenham.

While England coach Steve Borthwick has depth out wide, Feyi-Waboso’s absence will be keenly felt. The winger has made a flying start to his Test career, scoring seven tries in just 13 appearances, and was expected to play a key role as England chase their first win in Edinburgh since 2020 – the same year they last lifted the Six Nations trophy.

Borthwick confirmed the injury is more serious than initially hoped.

“It looks like Manny will be out for a number of weeks,” Borthwick said. “I don’t know how many, but it’s a number rather than a single week, which is disappointing.

“But that’s unfortunately the nature of elite sport. There are injuries and then you have to adapt.”

England do, however, have options. Henry Arundell staked a powerful claim with a hat-trick against Wales, while Tom Roebuck marked his return from a broken toe with a try of his own. Tommy Freeman, used in midfield against Wales, and experienced utility back Elliot Daly are also capable of slotting in on the wing.
