Glenrose Xaba produced a dominant solo performance to successfully defend her national title at the ASA 10,000m Championships, which were incorporated into the Cape Milers Club ASA Grand Prix meeting, at Green Point Stadium in Cape Town on Friday, 4 April, 2025.

Representing Athletics Gauteng North, Xaba never gave anybody else a chance, hitting the front from the start and overlapping every other athlete in a limited field on her way to victory.

Xaba ran a consistent 76-second lap to complete the 25-lap race in 31:40.13, securing her eighth national senior title over the 10 000m distance in the highlight of the Cape Milers ASA Grand Prix, a World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger meeting.

“It’s very special for me to win this title for the eight time, because it shows I’m very consistent, and it’s not easy to be consistent and maintain your form if you’re not disciplined.”

The defending champ was pushed by Ethiopian Selam Gebre a weekend ago to start the defence of her Spar Grand Prix title in Cape Town, and Xaba said that she was glad with her performance to win the title on Friday, since she had not had the necessary recovery time from the exertions of that race.

Cacisile Sosibo took second place in the colours of Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) in 33:38.68, and Karabo Mailula (AGN) was third in 34:12.78.

“This was middle distance feast of fury where the winners made it a bit easy,” said James Moloi, the President of Athletics South Africa. “It was yet another great championship.”

“We congratulate the winners for a fine performance and achievement. This championship would not have been a success if it had not been for a great partnership Western Province Athletics and the Cape Milers Club. Thank you,” said Moloi.
