Lloyd Harris, the only South African in the men’s singles draw of the French Open, was beaten in the first round by the No15 seed Andrey Rublev in four sets at Roland Garros.
Harris, who is making his way back up the rankings after an extended absence due to injury, stretched the fancied Russian to four sets on the red clay of Roland Garros, where Team SA had won a Paralympic bronze medal at Paris 2024 through Donald Ramphadi and Lucas Sithole.
Rublev prevailed 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, but it marked the first time in three encounters that the South African had burgled a set off his opponent.
