South African Communist Party (SACP) General Secretary Solly Mapaila has strongly criticised United States President Donald Trump for threatening to launch military action against Nigeria if the country fails to curb the killings of Christians.
Trump reportedly warned that the US would also suspend all aid and assistance to Nigeria until it takes decisive steps to eliminate terrorist groups targeting Christians.

Mapaila denounced the US President’s remarks, describing them as a direct assault on Nigeria’s sovereignty and a clear breach of international law.

“Trump’s utterances are completely unacceptable. We condemn in the strongest terms possible. As the SACP, the violation of international law, the violation of the national sovereignty of other countries.
“This includes the bullying tactics of the United States of America. Terrorism can happen anywhere. It also happened in the US, despite its fortification. Trump is just using this leeway to enter Nigeria as he has done in other countries,” he said.
Solly Mapaila: Red October Rally Highlights Ongoing Struggles in South Africa
Mapaila made the remarks during the SACP’s main Red October Rally in Klerksdorp, North West, on Sunday.
The rally marked seventy years since the adoption of the Freedom Charter, with the party reflecting on its unfulfilled promises and the persistent challenges facing the majority of South Africans.
Addressing the crowd, Mapaila expressed frustration over the deepening inequalities, unemployment, and poverty that continue to plague the country.

“We are unhappy about the state of affairs. People are living in poverty, inequalities are deepening and there is no work.
“The right to work is not guaranteed in this country and it is in the Freedom Charter. We should be guaranteeing every person the right to work and deploy to function effectively,” he said.
SACP Eyes 2026 Elections Amid National Discontent
Looking ahead, Mapaila confirmed that the SACP remains committed to contesting the upcoming elections, emphasising the party’s efforts to collaborate with other organisations.
“We are still going ahead to contest elections as the SACP, of course, we are engaging with a variety of organisations in some areas, for instance, depending on the outcome of those discussions, we could participate as fronts.
“When people can now reclaim their power back and direct it for their development,” he explained.
