A woman was charged with attempted murder Friday for allegedly shooting two lawyers outside a courthouse in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Gwendolyn White became “belligerent” during a hearing in her lawsuit against the nearby town of Rolesville, North Carolina’s police department, according to USA Today, which cited reports from Raleigh Police Chief Rico Boyce. White left the courthouse after the hearing but returned with a gun and allegedly shot Mary Harris and Jeffrey Whitley, lawyers at Fox Rothschild who represent the town.

Neither the town of Rolesville nor Fox Rothschild responded to USA Today’s requests for comment. A lawyer for White also did not respond to a USA Today request for comment.

Harris and Whitley are expected to survive their injuries, according to additional coverage from the Raleigh News & Observer. Police on Sunday had not said whether either lawyer was released from the hospital.

Harris received her law degree from Campbell University in 2022, and Whitley graduated from the Duke University School of Law in 2013, the Raleigh News & Observer reports. They both worked in Fox Rothschild’s Raleigh office.

White, who is being held without bail, is reportedly expected to appear in court Tuesday.

Posts on social media and filings in court show that White believed that the Rolesville Police Department was involved in “a racist conspiracy” to kill her and her mother, who died last year at age 90 in a nursing home, according to the Raleigh News & Observer.
