Crowell & Moring and Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer are hiring large groups of lawyers from other law firms.

A group of 16 health care litigation partners has made the leap from Reed Smith to Crowell & Moring, Law.com reports. But the total will surpass 40 lawyers, helping establish the “premier health practice in the country,” Crowell told the legal publication.

A Reed Smith spokesperson told Law.com that the departures “will allow us to strengthen our deep roots in the health care industry by removing certain conflicts.”

The second firm, Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer, is “raiding K&L Gates’ West Coast talent” with the hiring of at least 12 partners, Law.com reports in a second article.

All but one of the K&L Gates lawyers will join a new Seattle office for Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer, positioning the firm “to meet increasing demand for sophisticated legal counsel in the Pacific Northwest,” said Michael Daneker, Arnold & Porter’s co-chair, in a statement cited by Law.com.

Julie Anne Halter, K&L Gates’ Seattle office managing partner, told Law.com that the office “has been—and will continue to be—an industry trailblazer in the region.”

According to Law.com, BigLaw “has seen a flurry of group lateral moves in 2025.”

Included in the flurry is Reed Smith’s early 2025 acquisition of 33 lawyers from Morris, Manning & Martin and four from Greenberg Traurig. Reed Smith was opening an Atlanta office with the new hires.
