Cuba says it killed four people aboard a Florida-registered speedboat that opened fire on soldiers in local waters Wednesday.

The Cuban Ministry of the Interior said in a statement that people on a boat originating from the United States, with a Florida licence plate, fired on Cuban Border Guard members, injuring the commander of a Cuban vessel.

The ministry says four people on the boat were killed in response, and six injured.

The shootout happened at Cayo Falcones, in the Corralillo municipality of the province of Villa Clara in central Cuba.
