Santorini is safe and prepared to welcome tourists again. As reported by Tourism Update, this comes after recent seismic activity prompted evacuations for both visitors and residents.

Between the 26th of January and the 22nd of February, the Interdisciplinary Committee for Risk and Crisis Management at the University of Athens recorded over 20,000 minor earthquakes in the vicinity of the island.

According to CNN, seismic activity has decreased, allowing for evacuees to return home, schools to reopen and hotel construction to resume.

The state of emergency declared in February was lifted in early March, although certain safety measures will continue to be enforced. Additionally, cruise ships have resumed their operations to Santorini, with Celestyal making its return on the 23rd of March. Other cruise lines, such as Regent Seven Seas, MSC and Celebrity have also planned stops for April.

Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni has confirmed that Santorini is indeed prepared to welcome visitors.

‘Santorini and the neighbouring islands are safe, and the infrastructure is functioning normally. Scientists have given us the green light, residents have returned, and professionals across all sectors are gearing up for the season,’ she said.
