Switzerland is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage and impeccable precision. The country has recently unveiled a new passport that reflects both its commitment to innovation and its deep-rooted traditions.

According to Hypebeast, Geneva-based studio RETINAA reimagined Switzerland’s passport for the Swiss Federal Office. It was designed in partnership with Thales and Orell Füssli.

The passport utilizes dynamic UV-sensitive designs drawing from the European country’s vast natural landscapes to bring the passport pages to life.

From its striking primary red cover, one might anticipate a minimalist design on the inside. However, the interior boldly embraces vibrant abstract watermarks, geometric patterns, as well as a captivating blend of naturalistic and cartographic illustrations.

For example, the ID page prominently features an image of the Pizzo Rotondo summit in the Saint-Gotthard Massif. This page reveals intricate curvilinear topographical lines that come to life under UV light, adding an element of surprise and depth.

The stunning document also showcases an aerial map of the majestic alpine peaks, with Swiss crosses at the center of each page.

These crosses not only highlight the country’s iconic symbols, but also unveil Swiss architectural landmarks and additional topographical details when illuminated by UV light.

The passport’s dynamic design elements transform it into a visual journey. Moreover, they serve to celebrate the country’s rich geography, art and heritage in a truly unique way.

As the cherry on top, the updated passport also integrates biometrics with high-security features. Under UV light, a network of isolines are able to safeguard the holder’s data.
