South Africa’s favourite low-cost carrier is throwing a sky-high celebration—and it’s your chance to fly for less than the price of a cappuccino.

FlySafair is marking its 11th birthday with an outrageous flash sale that will see 50 000 domestic flight tickets up for grabs at just R11 each, including taxes. The deal takes off on Wednesday, 7 May 2025, and runs for one day only—starting at 9am and closing just before midnight.

The catch? You’ll have to be lightning-quick and a bit lucky.

Sales will only be available on FlySafair’s official website, where a virtual waiting room will queue hopeful travellers in a race against time and server traffic. Only a limited number of people will be allowed in at once, and once you’re through, you’ll have just 10 minutes to secure your booking before being kicked out.

‘To give everyone a fair shot and avoid crashes, we’ve built in a secure waiting room system. It’s like a ticket lottery—with a twist,’ the airline said.

While you’re in the queue, there’s more than just twiddling your thumbs. Travellers can try their hand at Flappy Plane, a game created for the occasion or dig through the R11 Fare Finder in search of a bargain route. Plus, customers can enter a draw to win free flights for an entire year, adding another reason to stay glued to your device.

FlySafair’s R11 sale has become something of a cult event in South Africa’s travel calendar, often breaking the internet as wanderlusters scramble to snag dirt-cheap flights. Past years have seen online traffic surge into the millions within minutes.

The airline first launched in 2014 and has since grown into a major domestic player, known for no-frills flying and high on-time performance. Its annual birthday sale is a nod to those roots—and a thank-you to loyal passengers who have helped it soar through a decade of turbulent skies.

If you’re planning to fly soon, this is your golden window. But be warned: the competition is fierce, and tickets will vanish faster than you can say ‘boarding pass.’

More details, including the full terms and conditions of the sale, are available on the FlySafair help desk.
