Team SA’s 4x100m Olympic silver medallist Shaun Maswanganyi made his 2025 Diamond League debut when he finished seventh in Doha. The 24-year-old, who has a personal best of 19.99 over the distance, will regard it as a satisfactory start to his international season.

He was the only South African in actiion in Doha.

The 200m was won by Letsile Tebogo in a time f 20.10sec. Tebogo was making his first appearance in Doha. The stop featured the first men’s 200m race in this season’s Diamond League. The 21-year-old has raced in the 200m only once prior so far this season, at the Botswana Grand Prix in April, where he won in 20.23.

It was far from a smooth victory for the Paris 2024 gold medallist though. He allowed himself a glance over his shoulder in the final metres – and almost lost as a result.

His glance was directed at  the USA’s Courtney Lindsey who made a powerful bid from the outside lane. As Tebogo glanced back and eased up on his stride over the line, Lindsey surged forward to cross the line 0.01 seconds behind the Olympic champion.
