Litigation boutique law firm Brewer, Attorneys & Counselors will be raising salaries for first-year associates to $300,000 beginning Sept. 1, an increase of $50,000.

The pay tops that of first-year associates at BigLaw firms, the bulk of which paid $225,000 in 2023. The pay scale stayed the same when top firms started announcing bonuses in November 2024.

Law.com and Above the Law covered Brewer, Attorneys & Counselors’ announcement, made in an April 28 press release.

Five associates will begin work in the fall at Brewer, Attorneys & Counselors, which has offices in New York and Dallas. The firm would be willing to hire a few more who can be “academic all stars” and “advocacy all stars,” said firm founder William A. Brewer III in an interview with Law.com.

Brewer hopes to increase alternative fee work while reducing hourly fee work to 20% or less, according to Law.com.

The firm gets help evaluating and preparing cases from a team in India that uses artificial intelligence and technology, Brewer told Law.com. Other resources include professionals, such as investigators and certified public accountants, he said.
