The initial Power Week delivered a captivating spectacle, laying the groundwork for what promises to be an intensely competitive 2025 season, and now, the second of three Telkom Netball League Power Weeks is set to ignite further thrilling netball action over the next five days at the Sun City Sun Park arena in the North West Province, starting this Friday, 13 June and continuing through to Tuesday, 17 June, 2025.

From the outset, the reigning title holders Free State Crinums have embarked on their 2025 campaign with a clear statement of intent, evident since their opening match against the Baby Proteas which led to comfortable victories over the Limpopo Baobabs, 2024 runners-up Gauteng Jaguars, and the Eastern Aloes.

But the Crinums’ otherwise perfect run was then rudely interrupted by the Golden Fireballs, who managed to upset the reigning champions in a closely contested match, when the Fireballs’ ability to outscore the Free State outfit in the later stages of the game proved to be a pivotal moment of Power Week 1.

The Fireballs’ impressive form culminated in their significant achievement of having concluded their Power Week 1 fixtures as the only unbeaten team, and positions them as log leaders in testament to their exceptional teamwork and strategic brilliance on court.

North West Tshukudu is top of the Division 2 standings, with a single loss to the Kingdom Stars in their eight outings.

Their pathway to this commanding lead included a resounding 63-42 victory over the Southern Stings, a match where they demonstrated their offensive prowess and defensive solidity, and a convincing 47-40 win against the Eastern Cape Aloes.

Crucially, the Fireballs’ unbeaten streak also encompasses their significant triumph over the defending champions, the Free State Crinums. This victory not only halted the Crinums’ perfect start, but also firmly established the Fireballs as a serious contender for the 2025 title.

The North West Flames dominated the Jaguars in a thrilling and fast-paced match, winning all four quarters en route to a 60-57 victory in front of their home crowd at the Sun City Super Bowl in the North West Province, on Sunday, 27 April 2025. All Photos: Netball South Africa

Fireballs Deal Crinums a Huge Blow as TNL Power Week 3 Kicks Off

    June 14, 2024

The Fireballs stun the Crinums on Day 1 of the concluding Power Week 3 of…

The Crinums continued to assert their dominance throughout Power Week 1 with commanding performances, including a resounding 68-45 triumph against the North West Flames, where their experience and strategic play shone through.

The Gauteng Jaguars, who valiantly secured the runners-up position in the 2024 Telkom Netball League, entered the 2025 season with their own ambitions, but their first encounter with home-province North West Flames dented their confidence in a narrow 60-57 loss.

Their second fixture, up against the defending champions, the Crinums, proved to be another stern test, resulting in a 59-38 loss.

To their credit, the Jaguars refused to be defined by these early outcomes, and – with the exception of a narrow loss to the inform Golden Fireballs, went on to dominate their remaining matches, including securing convincing victories against both the Zambezi Eagles and the Limpopo Baobabs on Day Six of Power Week 1, to leave them placed mid-way up the Division 1 log standings.

Beyond the leading contenders, other teams also delivered memorable performances during the initial Power Week, North West Tshukudu is top of the Division 2 standings, with a single loss to the Kingdom Stars in their eight outings, two points ahead of the Western Cape’s Tornados, who only suffered losses to Tshukudu and Kingdom Stars.

Significantly, the Limpopo Lillies started their campaign on a positive note, securing a convincing 38-36 victory over the Diamonds in their opening match, marking what could be seen as a promising start to a new era for the team in the TNL.
