Every so often, a moment comes along that can change everything. For women in sport, that moment could begin with you. As gsport celebrates the incredible milestone of its 20th edition, the call to recognise unsung heroes is louder, more urgent, and more exciting than ever.
Since 2006, the gsport Awards have stood as a beacon of recognition, honouring athletes, coaches, administrators, media professionals, volunteers, and pioneers who are changing the face of sport in South Africa. This year, the movement is growing stronger than ever.
Across the continent, passionate voices are rising to nominate game changers. From high-performance athletes to grassroots heroes, a new generation is being celebrated. Not just for their talent, but for their determination, their values, and the way they uplift others.
“Winning on the gsport stage was an honour and a privilege,” says Shamila Sulayman, 2022 Volunteer of the Year. “But the impact was even greater… this #PowerOfRecognition is a strong message. They are seen, they are celebrated, and they are recognised.”
That message is resonating deeply, with nominations arriving from every corner of the continent. First-time nominees. Quiet trailblazers. Future legends.

“This year, we’ve seen an incredible wave of strong entries, especially brand new nominees who are doing exceptional work in their spaces.”
