Tumi Ramokgopa was one of the standout performers among women members of Team South Africa, winning gold in the U20 100m final and the U20 400m hurdles at the CAA U18 & U20 Championships at Abeokuta in Nigeria, held from Tuesday 16 to Sunday 20 July, 2025.
With their leading performances, Team South Africa have retained their continental crown, having now won the last three events.
Ramokgopa was sensational in both her races, powering to the finish line in a time of 13.52 in the 100m event and, after a slow start to the 400m hurdles, soon led the race to come home in a time of 57.97.
2023 SuperSport School Sport winner at the #gsport18 awards, Alicia Khunou, was also in fine form as she bagged two gold medals for South Africa. She was the top athlete in U20 discus as well as shot put.
Christé Loedolff was also on the podium with Khunou for her bronze win in the U20 discus.
Megan Nieman and Nokuthula Mthethwa both raced to medals in the 100m U18 hurdles final. The pair led from the front, and it was Nieman (13:84) who edged her compatriot to take gold as Mthethwa (14:35) took silver. It was a more than successful event as they ensured South Africa defended their title in this race.

Oluchi Abelwe Ndubueze, who participated in multiple disciplines, won gold in the U18 Long Jump event as well as helped the South African U18 medley relay team to silver, and also successfully defended their second place from two years ago in the 4×100 U20 relay, bagging silver again.
There were also gold medals for Ansume de Beer, who took gold in the U20 Pole Vault, as well as Jordan Spolander, who secured gold for South Africa in the U18 High Jump, early in the meet’s contests last week.
Mia Davel and Martha Nkosi were top performers, as the pair dominated the U20 High Jump, a discipline that South Africa has come to dominate in recent years at the competition. Davel secured first place in the U20 final, securing an all-important gold medal, with Nkosi in second to bring home the silver.
