Preparations are underway for the fourth Uganda-Kenya Coast Tourism Conference, Exhibition, and Familiarization (Fam) Trip, set to run from October 27 to 29 at Ocean Beach Resort & Spa in Malindi, Kilifi County.

Launched on Tuesday by the Consulate-General of Uganda in Mombasa alongside key tourism stakeholders from both countries, the event will run under the theme: “Leveraging Youth, Innovation & Technology for Responsive & Inclusive Tourism.”

The launch was graced by Kilifi County Governor Gideon Mung’aro, county executives, the Kenya Tourism Board, Uganda Airlines, tour operators, and a special appearance by Ugandan brand ambassador Akothee.

Uganda’s Consul General in Mombasa, Amb. Paul Mukumbya, said the conference continues to grow as a platform of complementarity rather than competition between Uganda and the Kenya Coast.

Attendance has risen from 200 delegates at inception in 2022 to a projected 750 stakeholders this year.

“As the tourism sector evolves, innovation and technology are shaping its future. Young people–with their fresh ideas and tech-savviness–are uniquely positioned to drive change as travelers, service providers, and entrepreneurs in tourism and hospitality,” Mukumbya said.

He noted that youth innovations, from seamless mobile booking apps to virtual reality travel experiences and AI-driven customer service, are transforming efficiency, sustainability, and customer satisfaction across the industry.

Governor Mung’aro echoed the call, praising youth creativity for fueling tech-enabled startups, sustainable tourism initiatives, and smart hospitality concepts. “These innovations not only improve visitor experience but also contribute to environmental conservation, cultural preservation, and economic empowerment,” he said.

Uganda Wildlife Authority’s Business Development Manager, Dorcus Rukundo Twesigomwe, encouraged Ugandans to take part in the Malindi conference, noting the rise in Kenyan visitors to Ugandan national parks and the opportunities for young professionals in research, digital marketing, and social media engagement.

In the run-up to the main conference, Ugandan tourism stakeholders will take part in a Fam trip along the Kenya Coast (October 22 to 26) and a golf tournament at Vipingo Ridge on October, 25.

Uganda Airlines has pledged discounted rates for registered participants.

The conference and its side events will build on the successes of previous editions while addressing emerging issues in regional tourism partnerships.
