South African paddlers are enjoying strong success at the ICF Marathon World Championships, which come to a conclusion in Gyor, Hungary, on Sunday.
Here is a list of how they have performed so far in the finals. Heading into the final day, South Africa had three medals.
MEN
K1 Short distance (3.6km): Uli Hart finished seventh, 32/39 seconds behind Fernando Pimenta who beat Mads Pedersen to the gold medal. Clinton Cook was 18th
SILVER! K1 Senior (29.2km): Andy Birkett finished second, 1min 37.65sec behind Mads Pedersen. Nicolas Notten was fourth, 10 seconds off the bronze medal position
K1 U23 (25.5km): Matt Coetzer placed 18th with Sam Butcher in 20th
SILVER! K1 Junior (21.8km): Keegan Vogt finished second, just 2.74 seconds behind Ireland’s Sean Butterly, while Cody Stallard was fourth
K2 Men Junior (3.6km): Ryley Smith finished fourth, missing bronze by 11.1 seconds. Jared Shrimpton was seventh
WOMEN
K1 Senior (25,5km): Nix Birkett DNF
K1 Short distance (3.6km): Jenna Nisbett finished 16th, 1min 29.36sec behind the winner, while Nix Birkett placed 19th
BRONZE! K1 U23 (21.8km): Saskia Hockly; Jade Wilson finished third, 11.29 seconds behind Pernille Hostrup of Denmarl. Saskia Hockly was fifth, three minutes behind her teammate
K1 Junior Short Course (3.6km): Isabella Strydom finished 18th, 1:56.56 off the winner
K2 Junior (18.1km): Hana Newlands & Tayla Norton finished 12th, while
Alayah Krogscheepers & Emma Privett were 1min 48sec behind them in 13th
