The University of the Western Cape’s women’s football team have completed a historic feat by securing their third straight Varsity football title with a 1-nil victory over UJ Women to retain the title again at a packed Soweto Stadium in Gauteng, on Friday, 19 September 2025.

Both teams struggled to break the deadlock in the first half, with few goal-scoring opportunities created, and the score remaining nil-all at halftime, but UWC captain Tiffany Kortje managed to get the first goal of the game early in the second half, beating a UJ defender to slot in the decisive attempt in the 46th minute.

UWC captain Tiffany Kortje won the SportPesa Goal Rush Award for her match-winning strike, leading from the front.

The second half saw both teams press for a goal, with UJ Captain Sthembile Sandleni, Kabelo Mokoena, and substitute Gugulethu Dhlamini all trying to find an equaliser, but could not convert their chances.

UJ’s best opportunity came late in the match when Kamogelo Maponya faced the UWC goalkeeper one-on-one, but her shot went wide. That final attempt ended the game, and UWC remained champions for the third year.

TUT’s Thabiso Senyatsi was crowned the Player of the Tournament, receiving R10,000 and the keys to a Suzuki Swift for a year.
