African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has positioned the Madlanga Commission as proof of the party’s determination to tackle corruption and maladministration.

Speaking at a media briefing at Luthuli House in Johannesburg on Thursday, Mbalula outlined the outcomes of the National Working Committee and stressed that the inquiry highlights the ANC’s stand on accountability.

    Purpose of the Madlanga Commission

President Cyril Ramaphosa established the commission to investigate criminality, political interference, and corruption within the criminal justice system.

Over the past two weeks, it has heard dramatic testimony from witnesses, with some implicating ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) member and Police Minister Senzo Mchunu in alleged connections to the criminal underworld.

Mbalula reaffirmed the ANC’s backing of the inquiry, while emphasizing fairness for those named during the proceedings.

“We know that names of individuals may arise in testimony or submissions. We emphasise that all those mentioned will have the right to reply and the opportunity to clear their names in line with our constitutional values of fairness and justice,” he said.
