Salam TV, in partnership with certified travel agencies, has launched a campaign dubbed “Road to Makkah 2026” to raise awareness about Hajj and provide more affordable options for Ugandan Muslims.
The initiative seeks to reach remote communities and boost the number of pilgrims undertaking the sacred journey.
The campaign, coordinated with licensed travel companies under the Uganda Bureau of Hajj Affairs, will educate Muslims across the country about the requirements and processes for Hajj and Umrah, ensuring they are connected to genuine, licensed operators.

“Many Muslims want to go for Hajj but lack accurate information. This campaign connects them to licensed companies and provides clear guidance on how to prepare for the journey,” said Hajj Karim Kaliisa, Managing Director of Salam TV.
Highlighting the need for such initiatives, Sheikh Zakaria Kyewalabye, Chairperson of the Uganda Bureau of Hajj Affairs, noted that Uganda continues to underutilize its Hajj quota.
Out of 10,708 slots allocated annually, fewer than 1,800 pilgrims make the journey. He expressed optimism that the campaign would increase participation by at least 40 percent.
The initiative will involve nationwide outreach, with a particular focus on remote areas where access to accurate information is limited.
Vianney Luggya, the corporate affairs manager at the Civil Aviation Authority, confirmed that Entebbe International Airport is ready to handle increased traffic during the Hajj season, with all necessary facilities in place to facilitate travel.
Ben Mwine, Next Media’s Head of Corporate Affairs and Partnerships, urged religious leaders to use the campaign to inspire positivity, especially among the youth, and to celebrate Uganda’s progress in facilitating religious engagement and international travel.
Through “Road to Makkah 2026,” Salam TV hopes to demystify the Hajj process, empower Ugandan Muslims with knowledge, and strengthen faith-driven tourism in the country.
