Former Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba has maintained that all decisions made during his tenure were consistent with government policy and legislation.

This follows a meeting with the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), which is assessing whether fraud and corruption charges should be brought against him.

Gigaba took to social media to reveal that IDAC was examining allegations suggesting he may have received benefits he was not entitled to while serving as public enterprises minister.

The African National Congress (ANC) Member of Parliament clarified that the investigation was not related to procurement matters but rather to claims that he personally benefited improperly.

He stated that IDAC had yet to produce any evidence justifying a formal investigation into potential misconduct during his time in office between 2010 and 2014.

IDAC spokesperson Henry Mamothame confirmed that officials had met with Gigaba but declined to elaborate further on the ongoing probe. “IDAC will not be commenting any further on the matter,” said Mamothame.

Gigaba, however, remains adamant that he acted lawfully and ethically throughout his tenure. “All decisions taken during my term were guided by policy and legislation,” he reiterated.

The Zondo Commission, which investigated state capture allegations, previously found that Gigaba had been “grossly negligent” and had facilitated the Gupta family’s access to key state-owned enterprises.

Despite this, Gigaba continues to assert his innocence, maintaining that he has done nothing wrong.
