He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continue working closely with companies and entrepreneurs to expand the economy and generate more employment opportunities.

“Thanks must go to the entrepreneurs, those people that grow their businesses, that invest in their businesses and increase employment.

“I think this also bodes well for the upcoming season. We have the agricultural seasons and tourism seasons, and I think that bodes well for us to continue on this trajectory of lowering our unemployment rate,” Winde said.

Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said the latest labour statistics demonstrate that the city is serious about helping Capetonians find work.

“I’m thrilled to receive the latest jobs stats for Cape Town from Stats South Africa, which show that there have been 40,000 new jobs created in Cape Town over the last quarter, and 70,000 new jobs in Cape Town created over the last year.

“Cape Town retains its position as having the lowest unemployment of all of the cities in South Africa and the highest number of new jobs growth,” he said.
