The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has accused the State of deliberately dragging out the incitement case against Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, labelling the latest postponement as a “delaying tactic”.

Zuma-Sambudla, daughter of former President Jacob Zuma, appeared at the Durban High Court on Wednesday for what was scheduled to be the third day of her trial.

The proceedings, initially set to run for two weeks, were postponed until next Monday after the prosecution requested more time to consult additional witnesses.

State Prosecutor Advocate Yuri Gangai informed the court that the adjournment was necessary to speak with further witnesses, cutting short what was meant to be day three of the 10-day trial.

    MK Party Questions State’s Readiness

Reacting to the delay, MK Party national spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela said the decision highlighted the State’s lack of preparedness.

“So this is a fatal, complete case. What more witnesses do they need? Are they telling us that after four years, they couldn’t identify other witnesses? They don’t have witnesses four years later?” Ndhlela asked.

He criticised the prosecution for what he described as inefficiency and a lack of direction in handling the case, adding that the delay demonstrated a weak legal strategy.

Party Claims Case Is Politically Motivated

Ndhlela further insisted that the case against Zuma-Sambudla was politically driven, maintaining that there was no credible basis for the prosecution.

“The prosecution has no case,” he asserted, accusing the State of using the court process to target political opponents.

Zuma-Sambudla’s trial is set to resume next week, with the MK Party vowing to continue challenging what it calls “political persecution” through the courts.
