Morocco celebrated a historic night at the 2025 CAF Awards as Ghizlane Chebbak was named CAF Women’s Player of the Year, her consistent performances for club and country making her the first Moroccan to win this top honour, in Rabat, capital of Morocco, on Wednesday, 19 November 2025.

From the gsport Newsroom Archives December 2024

Chebbak was the top scorer at the Women’s African Cup of Nations in July, leading her team to the final, where they finished as runners-up to Nigeria. She transferred from AS Far to Saudi club Al-Hilal ahead of the 2025/26 season, joining six-time CAF Women’s Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala.

Nigeria was another big winner on the night, bagging the Women’s Team of the Year as the Super Falcons had a successful WAFCON campaign, taking home the trophy as they staged an incredible comeback in the final to clinch their 10th title.

South Africa had only one player nominated at the Awards, with star goalkeeper Andile Dlamini in the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year category, won this year by Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie for her third consecutive title, following her instrumental performance in her national team’s WAFCON win.

Morocco’s Doha El Madani retained the CAF Women’s Young Player of the Year award after helping AS Far to the Morocco Women’s Championship and finishing as top scorer at the CAF Women’s Futsal Africa Cup of Nations 2025, where Morocco took the title.

Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie walked away with her third consecutive CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year crown, following her instrumental performance in her national team’s WAFCON win.

Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis has been nominated for the CAF Women’s Coach of the Year award. Ellis is a serial winner of the award and will be hoping to add her fifth gong to her trophy cabinet. This award, however, and the CAF Women’s Interclub Player of the Year gong, will only be presented upon completion of the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League Egypt 2025.
