The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Youth Brigade in KwaZulu-Natal has hit back at the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party’s move to oust Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli, calling the motion of no confidence nothing more than political theatrics.

The MK Party recently tabled the motion seeking Ntuli’s removal as the province’s head of government. Tensions escalated outside the KwaZulu-Natal legislature shortly after, with a disruptive protest erupting while members of the provincial legislature (MPLs) were in session.

House Speaker Nontembeko Boyce confirmed the next steps, saying: “Having considered all these processes, I therefore announce that the debate and voting on the MK motion will take place on Monday 15 December 2025.”

The announcement triggered dramatic scenes outside the legislature as MK Party supporters chanted and demanded that Ntuli step down immediately.

The IFP Youth Brigade criticised the protest action, accusing the MK Party of prioritising spectacle over stability. The youth wing argued that the timing of the demonstration, given the pending motion, was highly irresponsible.

They said, “This reckless behaviour demonstrates that the MK Party is prepared to derail progress for the sake of spectacle. By wasting legislative time with baseless motions, the MK Party is actively attempting to deprive communities of focused, uninterrupted, and efficient service delivery.”

The motion of no confidence is expected to be tabled in a hybrid sitting within the next two weeks. Voting will be conducted by secret ballot, setting the stage for a tense political showdown in KwaZulu-Natal.

The MK Party’s move to remove Ntuli has also been echoed by the National Freedom Party (NFP) at a national level, which has called for his dismissal.
