GOOD Party leader and Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille has called on South Africans to remove the current administration through the ballot box — a striking message given that her own party is part of the Government of National Unity (GNU).

De Lille made the comments while addressing a mass meeting of the newly formed UNITE party, an alliance bringing together GOOD, Build One South Africa (BOSA) and Rise Mzansi.

The gathering aimed to rally support and attract prospective candidate councillors ahead of the 2026 local government elections.

“There are no people that are governing, because the leaders are just eating and stealing. But remember, we live in a democracy and through this democracy, we, all here, we voted in this useless government.

“We, we voted them in, useless, and the only way you can get them out is to vote them out. There’s no other way, you have to vote them out.”

Patricia de Lille’s Bold Message Sparks Debate

De Lille’s remarks have stirred conversation across the political landscape, particularly as they come from a key figure within the GNU. Her criticism centred on what she described as leaders who have failed to govern responsibly, instead engaging in self-serving behaviour.

She reminded attendees that democracy provides the power to remove ineffective leaders, stressing that voters must use the 2026 local elections to bring about change.

The UNITE formation is positioning itself as a new collective force, seeking to put forward strong candidates capable of addressing community challenges and holding government accountable.

The alliance’s recruitment drive aims to find individuals who can represent residents effectively at the municipal level, with De Lille urging citizens to take an active role in reshaping the country’s political direction.
