Oswin Appollis once again found the back of the net for Bafana Bafana during their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opener against Angola.

The 24-year-old scored the opening goal to give his side the lead in the 21st minute. The match started at a high tempo with both sides looking to get an early advantage.

Lyle Foster’s header did not trouble the keeper and a few minutes later, Teboho Mokoena fired wide with a long-range shot.

Appollis did find the opener in the 21st minute after a layoff from Lyle Foster. His goal was cancelled out 15 minutes later by Manuel da Silva.

    Appollis keeps scoring for Bafana

Oswin Appollis made his debut for Bafana Bafana in 2023 and was part of the AFCON squad, which reached the semi-finals in Ivory Coast in 2024.

Since his move from Polokwane City to Pirates, the speedy winger has been the best player in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

On 6 September, Appollis scored his second Bafana goal against Lesotho in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. A month later, he scored the opener in Bafana’s 3-0 win over Rwanda, which saw Hugo Broos’ men qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Against Zambia, Appollis was on the score sheet again as South Africa edged out Zambia 3-1 in a friendly match last month.

His goal against Angola was his fourth in his last five matches for the national team, making him the inform player in the squad. His form at Orlando Pirates has also been superb, helping the Sea Robbers to three trophies this season.

    Will Bafana lift the AFCON?
