From new visit visas to revised sponsorship rules and Golden Visa service updates
As we head into 2026, several UAE visas are set to undergo reforms. Amendments announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security include new visit-visa categories and changes to existing sponsorship requirements. Golden visa holders, there are a few service updates for you, too.
New UAE visit-visa categories
Under the revised system, the UAE has introduced four new visa categories.
- Artificial intelligence specialists | available for single or multiple entry, and sponsored by licensed AI-focused entities
- Entertainment | Visitor’s visa for those looking to participate in cultural, artistic, and tourism activities
- Events | Visa covers conferences, exhibitions, festivals, and sporting, religious, or educational gatherings
- Maritime tourism visas | Multiple-entry visa for cruise passengers and leisure vessels
Amendments to existing UAE visas
Several existing visa categories have been revised.
Foreign truck drivers can now apply for single or multiple-entry visas, subject to stricter requirements. These include sponsorship by accredited logistics companies, financial guarantees, and health compliance.
Have friends or relatives visiting? Sponsors minimum income thresholds have been amended based on kinship: Dhs4,000 per month for first-degree relatives, Dhs8,000 per month for second and third-degree relatives, and Dh15,000 per month when sponsoring a friend.
For business visa seekers, applicants have to demonstrate financial capacity, overseas professional experience, or show formal recognition of their occupation by relevant authorities.
For humanitarian residency, individuals from conflict or disaster-affected countries can receive a renewable one-year visa without a sponsor (case to case basis).
Additional provisions were announced for foreign widows and divorcees previously married to UAE nationals or residents. Applicants can receive six-month residencies which can be extended on valid grounds. Custodial mothers may sponsor their children subject to housing and financial conditions.
A unified schedule covering visa durations and approving authorities has also been adopted to improve transparency and consistency.

Golden visa service updates
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the federal authority, has introduced five new services for Golden visa holders.
This includes electronic return documents for lost passports, 24-hour emergency support, humanitarian evacuation, repatriation of remains, and access to a dedicated global hotline.
