The Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro station is about to get a lot roomier
One of Dubai’s busiest Metro stations is about to become much bigger. The Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station is set for a major expansion, designed to ease crowding and shorten waiting times during the city’s busiest events.
The upgrade comes after a new partnership was signed between the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Emaar Properties. Together, they aim to improve access to Downtown Dubai, home to Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall and some of the city’s most popular attractions.
RTA and Emaar sign agreement to expand Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station, increasing capacity by 65%.

What commuters can expect
Once the work is complete, the station will grow from 6,700 square metres to 8,500 square metres. Passenger capacity will also see a big increase, rising from 7,250 people per hour to more than 12,000. Daily capacity is expected to reach up to 220,000 passengers, helping to ease pressure during peak travel times.
The improvements will include larger concourse and platform areas, additional escalators and lifts, and separate entry and exit gates to keep foot traffic moving smoothly. More ticket gates will be added, pedestrian walkways will be upgraded, and retail spaces within the station will be expanded. Better links to other transport options are also planned.
