    President Cyril Ramaphosa has made key appointments in the following offices: The National Prosecuting Authority, the Public Prosecutors’ Office, and the Special Investigating Unit (SIU). President Ramaphosa has, in terms of s 179(1)(a) of the Constitution, read with s 10 of the National Prosecuting Authority Act 32 of 1998, decided to appoint Advocate Jan Lekgoa Mothibi, effective from 1 February 2026, as the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP). Mr Mothibi was head of the SIU. He has previously served in various public and private sector roles managing legal, compliance, and risk management operations, including as Head of Corporate Legal Services and Head of Governance at the South African Revenue Service.

    The presidency pointed out that with the appointment of Mr Mothibi as the NDPP, President Ramaphosa has appointed Mr Leonard Lekgetho as the acting head of the SIU in line with s 3(1)(b) of the Special Investigating Units and Special Tribunals Act 74 of 1996. Advocate Dinkie Portia Dube has been appointed as the Deputy Public Protector of South Africa for a term of seven years, effective from 1 February 2026. President Ramaphosa made this appointment in terms of s 2A (1) of the Public Protector Act 23 of 1994. The presidency added that Ms Dude has more than 20 years of experience in the public sector with expertise in oversight, complaints management, and investigation.
