Free State Stadium is eligible to host Springbok Test matches again.
The Bloemfontein venue has been officially recognised as a Tier 2 stadium in South Africa, confirming that it now meets the required national standards to stage Bok Tests and other top-tier international fixtures.
The classification relates to infrastructure, upgraded facilities, media requirements, hospitality areas and the overall match-day experience. In practical terms, it places Bloemfontein firmly back on the map as a viable host city for elite international rugby.
The Boks last played at Free State Stadium in July 2024, beating Portugal 64-21.
For the Free State Rugby Union and the Cheetahs, the recognition is a boost for a province with a proud rugby heritage. It ensures supporters in central South Africa could once again watch the Springboks on home soil rather than travelling to coastal centres.

The move also carries significant economic implications. Tests attract thousands of visiting supporters, team delegations and media, driving hotel occupancy, restaurant trade and activity in the retail and transport sectors.
