A new zipline at the gateway to the Overberg is giving travellers between Cape Town and the Garden Route more than just a road trip.

Perched near the summit of Houw Hoek Pass, just over an hour from the city, a new zipline experience has launched at the historic Houw Hoek Hotel. The attraction introduces a quick but exhilarating activity that fits neatly into journeys toward Hermanus, the Overberg and beyond.

The concept is simple. Arrive, gear up and fly.

As reported by The Planner Guru, visitors cross a short suspension bridge before launching onto one of two parallel lines, allowing friends or family members to ride side by side. The experience lasts roughly 30 minutes from start to finish. Trained operators handle the safety briefing, harnessing and landing procedures, making the activity accessible to both first time zipliners and seasoned adventure seekers.

Unlike full day canopy tours that require advance bookings and fixed time slots, this model is designed for flexibility. Travellers can arrive without rigid scheduling, making it easy for tour operators and self drive holidaymakers to incorporate the stop into an existing itinerary without disrupting the rest of the day.

Its location is part of the appeal. Positioned at the gateway to the Overberg and en route to destinations such as Hermanus, the zipline encourages motorists to pause rather than simply pass through. Companions who prefer to stay grounded can relax with a meal or coffee at the hotel before the journey continues.

Adventure tourism continues to grow across the Western Cape, and this addition reinforces how even well travelled routes can evolve. What was once simply a transit corridor between regions is becoming part of the experience itself.
