The UAE has announced a 30-day visa grace period for travellers whose plans were affected by recent regional disruptions

The initiative, announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), runs from June 10 to July 9, 2026 and applies to people who had previously been exempt from overstay fines after being unable to leave the UAE due to exceptional circumstances in the region.

Who does the grace period apply to?

The measure is aimed at travellers whose journeys were disrupted earlier this year following temporary flight suspensions and airspace closures across parts of the region.

It applies to individuals who were previously granted relief from overstay penalties, including some visitors, exit permit holders and residents whose visas had been cancelled ahead of their planned departure from the UAE.

The ICP said the additional 30-day period has been introduced to provide affected travellers with sufficient time to make the necessary arrangements and ensure they remain compliant with UAE residency and visa regulations.

    Why was the decision made?

Earlier this year, UAE authorities introduced a temporary exemption from overstay fines for people who found themselves unable to leave the country due to circumstances beyond their control.

The move was designed to protect affected travellers from financial penalties while travel services across the region experienced disruption.

Now, with flight operations returning to normal, the latest grace period offers those affected additional flexibility and support as they finalise their next steps.

    What travellers need to know

Eligible individuals have until July 9, 2026 to either update their visa status or complete their departure arrangements.

Those who believe they may qualify for the grace period are encouraged to check the latest guidance through official ICP channels and ensure any required arrangements are completed before the deadline.
