Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso – Burkina Faso has taken a significant leap into the future of sustainable transportation with the unveiling of its first locally assembled electric vehicle, ITAOUA. The revolutionary car, which is 100% electric and powered by solar energy, was officially introduced to the public in a historic event held in Ouagadougou’s prestigious district, Ouaga 2000.

The ITAOUA electric vehicle stands out not only as an innovation in clean energy but also for its remarkable efficiency. The car boasts an impressive range of 330 kilometers after just 30 minutes of charging, positioning it as a competitive player in the growing African electric vehicle market. Designed with Burkina Faso’s unique climate and energy needs in mind, the vehicle harnesses solar power, making it an ideal solution for the country’s high solar exposure.

The production facility, located in Ouaga 2000, is expected to be a game-changer for Burkina Faso’s economy. Officials project that the ITAOUA manufacturing plant will generate thousands of jobs, spanning from engineering and design to assembly and distribution. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision of industrialization and self-reliance, reducing dependence on foreign imports while fostering local expertise in green technology.

Speaking at the launch, government officials and industry leaders hailed the project as a milestone for Burkina Faso and the African continent. “This is a moment of pride for our nation. We are not just adopting technology; we are creating it. ITAOUA represents Burkina Faso’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and economic empowerment,” said one of the keynote speakers at the event.

The unveiling of ITAOUA comes at a time when global demand for electric vehicles is rising, and Burkina Faso is keen on positioning itself as a regional hub for renewable energy-powered mobility solutions. By investing in electric transportation, the country aims to tackle both environmental challenges and high fuel costs, offering an affordable and sustainable alternative to conventional vehicles.

Experts believe that the success of ITAOUA could set a precedent for other African nations seeking to develop homegrown solutions for sustainable mobility. As production scales up, there are plans to expand distribution beyond Burkina Faso, potentially tapping into neighboring markets eager for eco-friendly and cost-effective transportation.
