    President Cyril Ramaphosa extends his Ramadan greetings and best wishes to Muslims across South Africa as they begin their fast for the holy month of Ramadan, emphasizing the country’s spirit of Ubuntu and diversity.

    Ramadan, observed by approximately 1.9 billion Muslims worldwide, is a period of spiritual devotion and physical sacrifice, with fasting from dawn to dusk and increased acts of charity and prayer.

    “For our Muslim brethren here at home and around the world, this is a sacred time of reflection, prayer, and performing acts of charity—values that unite us all,” said Ramaphosa.

    Ramaphosa, praised South Africa’s diversity, calling it “our greatest strength” as the nation works toward equality and opportunity for all.

    He also highlighted special Ramadan traditions, including night prayers and feeding the needy, describing them as acts of compassion, empathy, and generosity that South Africa deeply appreciates.

    Moreso, Ramaphosa acknowledged that while Ramadan is a time of spiritual renewal, many around the world continue to suffer—particularly in Gaza, the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, and the troubled Sahel region.

     “Even as this is a time of fraternity and spiritual growth for Muslims, we are keenly aware that suffering peoples in these regions will experience little cheer this Ramadan,” he said.

    He reaffirmed South Africa’s solidarity with oppressed peoples everywhere and called for an end to intolerance, conflict, and war.

    Ensuring that no one goes hungry during Ramadan, the King Salman Humanitarian and Relief Centre has launched the “Eta’am (Food) Basket Project” in South Africa.

    These initiative will distribute 10,250 food hampers, each weighing approximately 35kg, containing essential food supplies to sustain a household for up to a month.

    Deputy Ambassador of Saudi Arabia in South Africa, Hamdi Ahmed Al Sahli, stated;
    “This is a gift from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the people of South Africa, expressing our solidarity, brotherhood, and empathy during the blessed month of Ramadan.”

    “We are grateful to be a nation where many cultures and faiths coexist in harmony,” he said.

    As muslims continue fast in this month of Ramadan, may it be fruitful to the nations and its citizens.
