Abu Dhabi expands driverless robotaxi services to include more neighbourhoods, adding new routes and smarter, cleaner ways to get around town
Abu Dhabi’s driverless future just got a little closer to your front door with new robotaxi routes. The Integrated Transport Centre has expanded its robotaxi service to more neighbourhoods across the emirate. The move forms part of the city’s bigger plan to build smarter, cleaner and more efficient transport that actually keeps up with how people live and move.
First launched in 2021, the service already runs across Yas Island, Al Saadiyat Island, Al Reem Island, Al Maryah Island and Zayed International Airport. Now it rolls into Khalifa City, Masdar City and Rabdan, three busy pockets where daily commutes and school runs never really slow down. There’s also a new route linking Abu Dhabi Corniche with Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, which means visitors and residents can glide between two of the capital’s most iconic spots without touching a steering wheel.

The robotaxis operate commercially through WeRide and Uber, alongside local operator Tawasul Transport, under approved permits from the authorities. Behind the scenes, the next phase will add more autonomous cars to the fleet to keep up with demand and improve performance.
Less waiting, fewer emissions, smoother rides. That’s the promise.
For a city that loves a big, bold idea, the robotaxi feels right at home. You tap your phone, a car pulls up, and off you go. No small talk, no parking stress, just a quiet, futuristic glide through town.
