    As African nations accelerate energy sector reforms and open markets to increased private participation, the 2026 Africa Energy Indaba, taking place from 3 – 5 March 2026 in Cape Town, will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, financiers, and innovators to explore one of the continent’s most transformative trends: Aggregated Energy Procurement.

    Across Africa, governments are liberalising their energy sectors to attract more players and investment. However, fragmented markets, small-scale projects, and dispersed consumers often limit the effectiveness of such reforms. The concept of aggregated energy procurement—where multiple energy consumers and producers combine their supply and demand—has emerged as a potential game-changer. By pooling resources and needs, these collaborative procurement models could unlock more competitive energy pricing, expand access to renewable energy, and strengthen grid reliability.

    The 2026 Africa Energy Indaba will delve into the critical question: Is Africa ready for such innovation?

    High-level panel discussions will examine:

    • The legal and regulatory frameworks required for suppliers to aggregate their offerings to the market;
    • How consumers can collectively procure energy in a compliant and coordinated manner;
    • The implications of competition law for new trading models;
    • And the role of energy traders in facilitating and structuring these complex, multi-party deals.

    Delegates will also explore successful examples of aggregation models already operating in parts of Africa and globally, providing practical insights for replication and scaling across the continent.

    “As Africa moves toward a decentralised and liberalised energy future, collaboration will be key,” said Liz Hart, Managing Director of the Africa Energy Indaba. “Aggregated energy procurement has the potential to make renewable power more accessible, reduce costs for industry, and promote stability across the grid—transforming how energy is bought, sold, and shared across the continent.”

    The Africa Energy Indaba continues to be the continent’s premier energy conference and exhibition, convening decision-makers from government, business, finance, and technology to chart Africa’s sustainable energy future.
