Hotel Verde, situated just minutes from Cape Town International Airport, has soared into the spotlight once again. This time snagging the coveted title of “Africa’s Leading Green Hotel” at the 2025 World Travel Awards, held on 28 June 2025 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. It’s back-to-back win, a stellar nod to its unwavering dedication to eco-excellence.

According to reports by BizCommunity, James Vos, Mayoral Member for Economic Growth in Cape Town, the praised the accolade as a powerful testament to the city’s leadership in sustainable tourism. He highlighted how Hotel Verde embodies the perfect union of conscientious luxury and economic impact, without compromising either.

Owner and director, Mario Delicio, echoed those sentiments, calling the recognition “a testament to our wavering commitment to sustainability and innovation” and a clear signal that eco-friendly isn’t just an option, it’s the future of hospitality.

Hotel Verde has consistently led with green milestones: In 2014 it became Africa’s first hotel to offer 100% carbon-neutral stays, while also being one of only a handful of hotels globally to secure LEED Platinum certification at the time. In 2024, it became the first in South Africa to achieve Net Zero Waste certification from the Green Building Council.

When you step inside, this four star oasis reveals 151 thoughtfully designed rooms, an enchanting wetland, an eco-spa, sleek conference spaces and Nuovo Restaurant & Bar. All of this crafted with the planet in mind.

Guests are invited to join in: track their eco-efforts on the jogging trail, pedal power at the gym, participate in Earth Hour dims or ride complimentary electric shuttles to the airport,  all reinforcing that eco-luxury can indeed feel indulgent.

With this win, Hotel Verde has reaffirmed its place at the forefront of green hospitality and positioned itself as a living inspiration for hotels across the continent. Cape Town has a green icon, and for travellers who care, it’s the perfect place to stay without regret.
