Buea, (ABS News) – In a major turning point for the Southern Cameroons (Ambazonia) Liberation Struggle, leaders and heads of movements have signed a historic leadership pact pledging unity, accountability, and coordinated action to end the ongoing war and secure a free and independent Ambazonia.
The agreement, known as the Southern Cameroons (Ambazonia) Leadership Pact, was unanimously adopted on April 18, 2025, during a high-level summit convened under the auspices of the Consultative Commission for the Transition to a Democratic Southern Cameroons (Ambazonia) held in Africa. The summit ran from April 17–20 under the theme “Laying the Foundation of a Shared and Prosperous Future.”
The pact was signed by prominent liberation figures, including Chris Anu, Dabney Yerima, Iya Marianta (for the IG), Ebenezer Akwanga (APLM), Nde Frederick Nifang (SCCSC), Elvis Kometa (SCNC), with representation from Ambazonian Prisoners of Conscience. The pact sets forth five key objectives:
To coordinate a just and peaceful resolution to the genocidal war in Ambazonia, ensuring the realization of full independence, work in unity with all actors before, during, and after the transition to statehood, under agreed-upon standards.
To demand the unconditional release of all Ambazonian political prisoners and detainees as a precondition for any negotiations. Develop common frameworks for effective decision-making and implementation. And lastly, to facilitate the inclusion of other leaders and stakeholders into the pact who are committed to ending the annexation of the Southern Cameroons.
According to a press release issued by the Consultative Commission and signed by McFarlane Njoh, the summit and pact “marked a turning point in the struggle” and served as “a firm reassurance to both the international community and the Ambazonian people” of the leaders’ readiness to collectively advance the cause of liberation.
The release also emphasized that the leaders, while acknowledging past divisions and missteps, pledged a renewed spirit of unity, trust, and inclusiveness. They affirmed the “incontrovertible right” of Ambazonians to determine their own future and declared that the “train of our liberation is leaving the station.”
“This LEADERSHIP PACT,” the statement reads, “is a binding commitment to advance the people’s quest for a free and independent Ambazonia… All Ambazonian patriots are called upon to board now. Ambazonia must achieve her freedom!”
The agreement and the summit signal a rare moment of cohesion in a liberation movement often marred by fragmentation. Observers say the move may help solidify the independence campaign’s legitimacy on the global stage and create the groundwork for future diplomatic engagement.
