The newly appointed African National Congress (ANC) leadership in KwaZulu-Natal is set to unveil its programmes to expedite the audit of its branches across the province on Wednesday.
Led by former ANC national policy head Jeff Radebe as convener (chairperson) and former Economic Development MEC Mike Mabuyakhulu as coordinator (secretary), the 67-member expanded provincial executive committee held its first meeting on Monday.

While media access was limited to a brief photo opportunity, sources indicate that the party will provide details on its programme, with branch audits taking priority to facilitate regional elective conferences.
Several key ANC regions, including eThekwini, are due for elective conferences, but delays in leadership restructuring have stalled the process. The audit aims to ensure all branches meet eligibility requirements to participate in upcoming elections.
EThekwini regional spokesperson Mlondi Mkhize acknowledged that delays in forming the reconfigured provincial structure have disrupted the region’s initial plan to hold its conference next month.
“It is no longer possible for us to hold our elective conference next month as we had planned, so we are waiting for guidance from both the provincial and national leadership,” Mkhize stated.
Leadership Race In eThekwini
With eThekwini chairperson Zandile Gumede seemingly ineligible to contest due to an ongoing court case and the ANC’s step-aside rule, speculation has grown over a leadership contest between municipality Speaker Thabani Nyawose and the region’s deputy secretary, Nkosenhle Madlala.
Other Affected Regions
Beyond eThekwini, several other ANC regions face leadership gaps due to expired or soon-to-expire terms. These include Nokuhamba Nyawo in the north-east, Mbuso Kubheka in Newcastle, Harry Gwala in Ixopo, and General Gizenga Mpanza, which includes KwaDukuza.
