The President of the<a href="https://www.ceast.ao/historial/” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>Bishops’ Conference of Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe(CEAST) has urged former Catholic seminarians in Angola to safeguard their Christian identity and resist political divisions, saying their formation should continue serving the Church’s evangelizing mission and the transformation of society.
Speaking during the installation of the leadership of the newly established Association of Former Catholic Seminarians of Angola on Friday, July 17, at the Pope Benedict XVI Amphitheater at the CEAST headquarters in Luanda, ArchbishopJosé Manuel Imbambasaid the association must remain rooted in the Gospel rather than partisan interests.
“We come together here as Christian members, not to engage in politics, not to look at the color of political flags or anything else, but simply to bear witness to Jesus Christ through the living of our faith,” Archbishop Imbamba said.
The Catholic Archbishop, who serves as Local Ordinary ofSaurimo Archdiocese, said the association has the vocation of bringing Gospel values into every sector of society.
“Lay associations within the Church have a specific mission, which is to bring the values of Christ to the various sectors of society,” he said, describing the new body as “a Christian association whose vocation is precisely to bring the light of Christ and leaven the whole of society—the cultural, professional, political, economic, and legal spheres.”
