Everyone in the gsport office is buzzing with excitement ahead of the 2025 gsport Awards. And truthfully? This year feels different.

For the first time since 2018, we find ourselves between Naming Rights partners, and in that space we’ve been gifted something rare: the chance to own our identity fully and celebrate the journey from humble beginnings to a national treasure.

For many who’ve joined the gsport community in recent years, it’s easy to know us by the glitz of red carpets, big branding, and live broadcasts. But gsport’s story started simply. On 1 August 2006, in a small room filled with just 20 powerful women in sport and media, one trophy was handed to one of our greatest ever athletes, Penny Heyns, and from that spark, something extraordinary was born.

On Saturday, 30 August, the gsport family will gather again to unveil the Class of 2025. This year’s theme, An Ode to 2006, takes us back to those roots: simple, elegant styling; the people in the room at the heart of it all; and the chance to unearth new icons and role models for future generations.

From teachers to moms, coaches to sponsors, athletes and media, the stage will shine with stories of resilience and achievement. Every finalist embodies the #PowerOfRecognition — doors opening, leadership opportunities expanding, careers blossoming. Recognition changes lives, and at gsport, we believe we must do even more to make it happen.

One of the most magical moments at every gsport Awards is seeing the awe of first-time guests. They arrive inspired, they leave transformed, driven to chase their own dreams. This year, we’ve invited some of our most interactive community members from social media to join the celebration for the very first time.

If that’s you, soak it all in: enjoy the moment, make friends, and take home memories that last a lifetime.

It’s the 20th gsport Awards, hosted once again at the historic Wanderers Club, which has proudly staged 15 of our 20 editions. Expect elegance, peaceful décor, a touch of nostalgia, and the unmistakable energy of Africa’s greatest stage for women in sport.

We’re just days away from something special. Sixty incredible finalists. Fabulous guest presenters representing leading brands. And a community ready to rise together and say with pride: #IRecogniseHer.

Catch it live on SABC 2, SABC Plus, and SuperSport Variety 4 on Saturday, 30 August from 19:00–21:00.
