South African sprinting icon Akani Simbine raced to the fastest time in the 100 metres in the world this year when he stopped the clock at 9.90 seconds at the FNB Botswana Golden Grand Prix. The Spar Proteas are scheduled to play a three-Test series against the Silver Ferns in New Zealand in September later this year, according to an announcement by Netball South Africa in Pretoria on Monday, 14 April,  2025.  This series is part of their preparations for the Commonwealth Games next year in Glasgow and the Sydney Netball World Cup in 2027. The SA National Swimming Championships in Gqeberha came to an end with seven swimmers having achieved qualifying times for the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore in July.
